Ok, here's the big furniture project I've been working on for the past week:
Changing my pie safe from reddish-orange (the color it was when I bought
it from the antique market about 5 years ago) in the picture below...
To a vibrant yellow! Enjoy a short video of the reveal below!
Here I am doing some finishing touches with my new Dremel (in my
classy safety goggles) lightly sanding the edges and using
the brush attachment to remove paint that had gotten onto the metal latch.
I used Martha Stewart paint in Yellow Magnolia and I love how this
not- too- bright yellow pops out cheerfully against my pale gray walls.
(It's important to let you know I used two coats of primer before
adding the yellow to let the true color stand out and last longer).

Yes, I am in love with yellow and gray.
Previously I had put metal screen inside the doors for decoration and
to keep little hands out, but I thought switching it to
chicken wire would be a nice change.
I cut it with wire cutters and attached it with
a staple gun. Pretty simple.
And a decorative way to kid-proof your home.
I will be working on changing my side tables in my living room soon, because as much as
I love color, it is even becoming a little to rainbow-like for me.
They will still have color, but more complimentary to my new love for yellow.
Next, I'm excited to be showing you what I've done to create a gallery wall display
in my dining room. Transforming traditional into modern and eclectic.
i love the color and the chicken wire! it looks awesome- that yellow is so nice!

Oh my! The yellow and chicken wire are 2 of my faves! I'm working on a roll away cart now that I'm painting yellow. I tried to get some M.S. paint at my Home Depot & they don't carry it anymore. =( You did great a job on this!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful!! I love pie safes and yellow and grey is the greatest :)
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the colour! I have been wanting to put chicken wire in one of my cupboards - thanks for the "how-to"!

I love this! I'm so jealous...it would look great in my house! LOL :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my blog today! :) I am in love with this yellow pie safe. I painted our whole kitchen pale yellow last summer and love it so much. I am going to subscribe here and can't wait to read more. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the yellow! Did you need the 2 coats of primer because of the original red paint? Have you seen the AS chalk paint in Arles? It's very pretty too.. Just a thought ;) love the chicken wire comment too, poor kiddies! - Susan
ReplyDeleteYeah, I guess we all love that yellow color! And the chicken wire adds just the right touch. Love it!
ReplyDelete@ Aimee-For some reason, I can't add it to the bottom of my posts anymore-a Blogger issue? @ Stephanie-I love your blog-glad we can keep in touch :)
ReplyDelete@ uniquelyyoursormine-yes, I did the primer so the true yellow would show without any tainting of the red below-also because I wasn't sure how old the red paint was and have read that to protect your top paint coat from bubbling/blistering you should do primer :)
I love the color, I'm writing it down, such a beautiful color. Also really like that you added the chicken wire, and the enamel pans look great on top. Such a Great job! Thanks for sharing your inspiration at Sunday's Best!
ReplyDeleteOh, how I love pie safes! Even better...yellow ones!! You did a fantastic job and the color choice is perfect! It's hard to find the right yellow and you nailed it!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Brittany! I agree it is hard I got lucky on this one.

ReplyDeleteI love it! I have a small hutch that's the original color of your pie safe and I've been dying to paint it, but couldn't decide on a color. It might just be yellow! I love the way yours turned out!
