Painted Mini Birdhouses

A few weeks ago I found some wooden birdhouses at Jo Ann Fabrics for a dollar
each. I thought they would make a fun project for me to do with my boys. So,
I got brave, opened up a few of my acrylic (non-toxic) paints and let them loose!
They loved it and I loved seeing them get creative with their houses...
(and hands...and lips...)

I did the orange and green one and painted the top with chalkboard paint, writing a
Spring message on it with chalkboard markers.
 I finished my birdhouse display by stuffing a few pieces of paper Easter grass
into the holes to mimic birds nests. This turned out to be a great kid's project and I'm
 proud that my boys actually sat through the whole project to finish them!

I just finished decorating my house for spring and can't wait to show you later this

DIY {Reclaimed.Recycled.Repurposed.} Spring Flower

Happy Spring! We are getting ours early around here and to celebrate I have been having fun thinking up little flower projects lately-have you seen my Pincushion Flowers?

I have a really quick craft for you today that repurposes a few of my favorite things: wine corks, shutter slats and milk jug plastic.

  And I got to test out the new Martha Stewart paints and spray paint set. It would make a great kids' project too I think. Want some of your own?

Here's you'll need to make these flowers:

• clean milk jug circles (cut out of the side of a milk jug)
• wine corks
• shutter slat or thin strip of wood
• wire
• buttons
• scissors
• Martha Stewart multi purpose craft paint (or spray paint)
• Martha Stewart paint sprayer kit (or spray paint)
• low temp glue gun
• frame hanger

First, cut even slits all around three milk jug circles. 

Then, roll up the ends of them until they curl with a paint brush or pencil.

(they should look like this)

Then, cut a few inches of wire, loop the wire through the bottom flower, twisting at the base to secure.

Add a drop of hot glue to attach the second and third top circle.

Now it's time to add some color. Either use the Martha Stewart sprayer according to directions or spray paint in color of your choice to spray the center of the flowers. Allow to dry.

After the flower is dry, attach a button to the center of the flower with a hot glue gun. 

Then, attach your frame hanger with hot glue to the back of the shutter. 
Push the wire through the middle of the cork and hot glue to the shutter slat vertically.

Finally, loop a piece of wire into the shape of leaves, and connect to stem to finish.

I hung my spring flower in my tangerine jewel box half bathroom. Love how this tiny accent looks in my tiny space. (More on how we added this second bath into a corner of our house in a later post! )

I'll be decorating the house for Easter this week-can't wait to show you some of those ideas!

Thrifty Spring Finds

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! 

These Irish eyes are smiling because the weather here is gorgeous-almost 

80 degrees with green grass and daffodils popping up (in case you're 

wondering, every other St. Pat's day I can remember wearing sweaters 

and seeing snow outside my windows...) 

Today I wanted to show you some thrift store finds I pulled together 

for a cute little spring outfit. I am excited because this spring, after losing

twenty pounds since last spring, I am two sizes smaller! 

(I plan on doing my official weight loss post with before and after pics

 once I actually hit my goal-only a few stubborn pounds to go! )

So, here you have my black H&M cotton dress, only $7--I've been

searching for something like this for a while-can't believe I found it so cheap! 

(I love how slimming and comfy it is).

And a cute little flower brooch (no I didn't make this one!) with the 

tag still on from New York and Co.: my price: $2 

Champagne ballet flats barely worn (I washed them anyway!)

for only $3

Besides the leggings and jewelry, everything  I'm wearing came from Saver's. 

Total cost: $12

Bathroom Inspiration

Happy Friday, everyone!

I have been enjoying some unusually warm March weather-maybe you have been too! I love being able to open all the windows, eat outside and let the boys get out all their wild energy. It also makes me excited for my bathroom paint redo.

We have lived in this house a little over a year and I haven't been able to decide on colors for the upstairs bath, but thanks to Better Homes and Gardens, I have officially been inspired by some of their beautiful ideas. Right now, my bathroom had been painted icy blue with dark blue ceilings (not a huge fan)  but since I wanted to focus on repainting the dining, living and our bedroom, I decided to pace myself and wait until this summer.

I am sure I will now be doing pale walls with bright pops of tangerine-have you heard it's Pantone's "Color of the Year?

I am in love with this color as an accent and I want to do some wall art similar to the one shown in this picture. I don't have a before pic of my bath, but that will come sometime down the road,
it does looks similar to this one with the beadboard walls. I have an old garage sale mirror I plan on revamping and installing in my bath. Hope you enjoy my inspiration too!

So, once I'm off my "maternity leave" of bigger projects, sometime in May or June I will be buying paint, installing a new mirror and getting my hubby to change the lighting and door, which is really old. It is fun to dream up ideas--can't wait to show you my finished bathroom!
