Blog Facelift

Well, it's that time of year where so many of us are enjoying a fresh start and making changes in our lives, our homes and personal goals. And I decided to enlist the help of my secret weapon, my husband Jeff for a blog facelift. Did you notice my fresh new header, button and signature?

We have been reading up on how important it is to brand your blog and I love how this facelift is more simple and has elements in it and a tagline that helps a new reader know what kind of blog this is (a DIY site! notice the pieces of tape?)

Jeff is so talented at Photoshop, photography and graphic design. He has taught me a few tricks but I am no where near as good as he is yet...He does photography and blogs at I Heart Snap It Photography and is now offering custom blog header, button, and signature design services at an affordable price! Go check out his site for more details and to contact him for services!

I would love it and I know he would appreciate it if you would give him a visit--say hi and see some of his gorgeous family photo shoots. And maybe subscribe, because he will be offering photo editing tips, Photoshop tips, staging photos for your blog and more! Here are just a few amazing photographs he has taken. Enjoy!

Don't forget to go check out I Heart Snap It Photography!
And stay tuned for Wednesday's announcement of the $50 Cutting Edge Stencil
Giveaway--you have one more day to enter!
Well, it's time for this tired momma to get some rest...Goodnight everyone!

A Walk Through a Salvage Warehouse

"Salvage"
"something extracted (as from rubbish) as valuable or useful"
(Merriam-Webster Dictionary).

We were here on one of the last days of December, an unusually
warm, sunny day. We took the whole family and our boys were
thankfully well-behaved, fascinated by everything they saw.
I am always so inspired when I come here, like walking
through an old attic or even museum.

Here is a photo stream a local warehouse that has
rescued many architectural treasures from the wrecking ball.

Not just for contractors, but for those who have
an imagination to bring creative re-use to these
items to create their own salvage style.

Believe it or not, this mirror was made completely from salvaged 19th c decorative
Victorian trim parts (w/new mirror). This warehouse would be any designers or crafters dream.

Hello Yellow: Pie Safe Revamp

Ok, here's the big furniture project I've been working on for the past week:
Changing my pie safe from reddish-orange (the color it was when I bought
it from the antique market about 5 years ago) in the picture below...

To a vibrant yellow! Enjoy a short video of the reveal below!

Here I am doing some finishing touches with my new Dremel (in my
classy safety goggles) lightly sanding the edges and using
the brush attachment to remove paint that had gotten onto the metal latch.

I used Martha Stewart paint in Yellow Magnolia and I love how this
not- too- bright yellow pops out cheerfully against my pale gray walls.

(It's important to let you know I used two coats of primer before
adding the yellow to let the true color stand out and last longer).
Yes, I am in love with yellow and gray.

Previously I had put metal screen inside the doors for decoration and
to keep little hands out, but I thought switching it to
chicken wire would be a nice change.

I cut it with wire cutters and attached it with
a staple gun. Pretty simple.
And a decorative way to kid-proof your home.

I will be working on changing my side tables in my living room soon, because as much as
I love color, it is even becoming a little to rainbow-like for me.
They will still have color, but more complimentary to my new love for yellow.
Next, I'm excited to be showing you what I've done to create a gallery wall display
in my dining room. Transforming traditional into modern and eclectic.
Stay tuned...
