Smart Simple & Green Boot Storage Tips

It's that time of year again-time to store away all the fall and winter clothes and boots and get out the sandals and flip-flops (and scrub those feet...paint those toenails pretty... )

If you have tall boots and want them to last long and keep their shape, don't just flop them down on the closet floor; try this quick trick: (and rescue some plastic from the recycling bin or trash can).

1. Grab two rinsed out empty two-liter bottles.

2. With the caps on tight, push them down into your boots to help them hold their shape.
3. Store away.

Ok, so that was the easiest and quickest tutorial I've ever shared-no skills required!
I really think this trick has helped my favorite boots last for years-now all I need to do for next season is polish them up.

Hope this tip was helpful and thanks for visiting ReMadeSimple! Looking forward to sharing more spring decorating and crafty ideas with you!

Beautiful Spring

"Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour..."

I love these famous words by Robert Frost that describe the beauty of this season so well. I wish
it would last longer! It has been a great spring where I live with warm weather and everything
blooming about a month earlier than usual.

Here is a photo stream of a gorgeous spring day I was able to spend with
my family wandering around some parks.

My boys loved running through the green fields, picking up sticks, pretending to be warriors.
an unfurling fern leaf

Framed Sticks Welcome Sign

Happy Spring! Want to change things up a little bit around the house? Why not try making a framed welcome sign like this one?  It's easy if you have an old frame laying around that you could revamp with a fresh coat of paint.

And who says welcome signs have to be on the outside of the house? I made this one that works either way because I love breaking "decorating rules". And, for those of you reading that don't really do crafts-I promise this one is one of the quickest and easiest so far-no excuses. So, what are you waiting for? Go make yourself something pretty!

Here's what I used to make my welcome sign:

  • wooden frame with glass and backing removed
  • acrylic paints
  • paint brushes-one thick one thin for writing
  • sticks
  • glue gun
  • sandpaper

After gathering a few  sticks and twigs outside of different shapes and sizes,  I broke them into lengths that would fit my frame.

Then, I painted the inside of my frame-(I used a rustic wooden one) with yellow acrylic paint.

After it was dry, I distressed the yellow with sandpaper.

Then, I hot glued my sticks onto the back of the frame.

To finish, I painted my welcome message freehand-if you're scared to do that-stencils or stamped letters would work just fine.

I love the pop of yellow against the gray-one of my favorite color combos lately. What do you think? I want to make another one with a bigger frame for my patio area outside.

Well, thanks for visiting ReMadeSimple! And please come back again in the next few weeks--I am excited a part of a big Mother's Day campaign and I'm getting ready to reveal the fun project I've been dreaming up...
